Dra. Maria Pilar Ferré

My main research focuses on the relationship between language and emotion. I am interested in understanding how the emotional content of words is acquired and represented and how this content affects language processing. I also investigate how individual differences among speakers can modulate these effects. Another central line within my research is bilingualism, more specifically the organization of memory in bilingual individuals and access to concepts from both languages. From the convergence of these two interests, a third research line has emerged, centred on the processing of emotional language in bilingual individuals. I have extensive experience conducting psycholinguistic experiments using different experimental paradigms. I have also contributed to the development of normative databases that collect data on affective and lexical-semantic variables of a large number of words, which are a very useful resource for stimulus selection in psycholinguistic research.
